Greetings from Grownup T1Ds

Good Day! We’re delighted you’ve found Grownup T1Ds, a nonprofit organization eagerly willing to improve the lives of older adults with Type 1 Diabetes. You’re in the perfect spot for some serious support, fun, advocacy, education, and, of course, everlasting friendships- regardless of how experienced you are with this Diabetes thing or how recently you have joined the club. So, please pull up a chair, and let’s talk about us!

Our Story

Virtual support groups sprung up during the pandemic but couldn’t match the comfort of face-to-face interactions. Kelly has lived with Type 1 Diabetes for 42 years and immediately recognized that most diabetes organizations and resources were geared towards children and young adults. After her sister was diagnosed in her 50’s, discharged from the hospital with lots of questions and little information, she knew that her instinct was spot on. That’s the point when she decided it was time for people like us in our middle ages to have a safe place or home to share what we felt.

What We Do

We’re all about keeping things warm and welcoming, and we have a toolbox full of resources to help you on your Diabetes journey. We also hold fun, in-person meet-ups (versus virtual meetings) and social events where we are with others who truly understand us. Here’s what we stand for:

Support

We have your back. When times are bad, our network provides a sympathetic ear, exchanges insights, and gives that much-needed virtual embrace. We’ll ensure you understand you’re not alone at every turn.

Fun

At Grownup T1Ds, fun is what you will never be short of. We’re about making your day a little brighter by adding fun with engaging social events.

Advocacy

In the field of diabetes advocacy, we are your voice. We are committed to advocating for laws that make your life simpler.

education

Our board members include a Psychologist, Diabetes Educator, and a Paraprofessional Diabetes Educator-ADCES. We do not preach statistics or lecture. Instead, we share tips, compare notes, provide peer support, and discuss what might be next in the medical options.

Friendships

We all believe that friendships are important and that life is better when they are on your side. Join our group to get to know people like you who have lived with T1D as older adults. Friendships are waiting to be formed!

Join Our Wonderful Community

Are you ready to dive into this awesome journey with us? Becoming a part of the Grownup T1Ds community is as easy as pie (Diabetic–friendly of course). So what are you waiting for? Come grab a cup of coffee, and let’s start making our life a bit sweeter from now on.

Feel free to chat with us with any queries; we are always available.

See you on the other side!

Our mission

The mission of Grownup T1Ds is to provide fun and engaging activities that support, educate, advocate, and improve health for the adult insulin-dependent diabetes community.
